Photographing the Mott-Topping House was less about documenting a property and more about capturing the layers of history, craftsmanship, and quiet character that define one of Sagaponack’s oldest homes.
Originally built circa 1750, the residence underwent a thoughtful restoration that preserved its colonial architecture while introducing subtle contemporary updates that feel true to the home’s original spirit. From hand-hewn beams and aged wood textures to carefully restrained interiors, every space carried a sense of continuity between past and present.
For this project, the focus was on light, materiality, and atmosphere — documenting the relationship between the restored interiors, the surrounding landscape, and the historic structure itself.
The project was later featured in Cottages & Gardens, highlighting the restoration of one of the East End’s historically significant residences.
